What is Fairtrade and why does it matter?

‘Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.’

Why should your school be a Fairtrade School?

  • The school gets local and national recognition
  • Supports lots of other initiatives (such as the LfS Standard for Schools, Healthy Schools, Eco-Schools, International Schools, etc)
  • Contributes to making the world a fairer place
  • Helps to develop lots of new skills
  • Has a positive influence on the school community
  • Is part of something that’s happening all over the country and around the world
  • Its fun!

Fairtrade... for teachers
