But don't the supermarkets pocket the extra profit? PDF Print E-mail

There is a common misunderstanding about the connection between supermarkets’ profit and what a producer is paid. Producers receive their monies upon selling their produce to a Fairtrade food manufacturer, not from a supermarket.

This means that the selling price upstream of the food manufacturers doesn’t have any effect on the prices paid to the producers.

For more information view the questions and answers report on retail pricing (PDF) from the Fairtrade Foundation.
